Asleep at the reel

Asleep at the Reel evoke the sound of the lively Irish pub, of flying fiddles and rich voices in harmony around an open fire. Their songs are stories – some of them hundreds of years old – wrapped up in music. Their rollicking jigs and reels will keep your feet tapping. The Irish call it the craic. It’s a word that means music and fun and, typically, quite a lot of the demon drink all bound up together.

This band of fine musicians taps into a tradition that dates back centuries and runs through Christy Moore, The Pogues, Van Morrison and The Corrs among many others. Yet Asleep at the Reel are not Irish – nor do they pretend to be. They are Australian yet, like so many Australians, Celtic music is in their DNA.

Celtic Session Hosted by Blarney Stone

Blarney Stone Celtic & Irish Folk Band have delighted audiences around Queensland for years with their authentic folk sound. But these Celtic Sessions will be something different to a regular performance, much more interactive!

In Ireland members of the audience are welcome to participate by singing along, or accompanying with an instrument, and that's what these Thursday nights will be all about. Blarney Stone will lead with their beautiful tunes, and we can all join in - or not! - as we fancy. Blarney Stone will also invite special guests from time to time to perform with them.

Everyone is welcome to participate or just sit back and enjoy the most fun Celtic night on the Peninsula.

Sea Shanty Sing-a-Long with Shantyman & Friends

Shantyman and Friends started with the enthusiasm for life, love of the sea and song. Now with added social distancing, we will sing to you - Songs of the Sea, the romance and history of journeys, tragedies and discoveries, along with the stories of the lives of those who sailed upon her mighty seas. Shanties are stories to be told of common folk enduring hard times & good times. Those that were lost and those that returned against all odds.

Shantyman and Friends will entertain you and we encourage you join in. Our sessions will be creative, responding to the crew or hands at hand. It may include Acapella singalongs, call and refrain interspersed with the twinkling of soft Celtic lyrics and instruments; whistle, concertina, and guitar. No experience is necessary, just the wish to share in the nautical adventure of sea salt and spray as we haul the main sail and set the rigging for an evening of fun music, pillage and mayhem.
